Re-Envisioning His Legacy – What is the Vision?

January 2, 2022 by Isaac Cundiff, The Church
Passages:Psalms 2:7-8, Revelation 7:9-12, Acts 2:42-47

Sermon Synopsis

In Psalm 2:7-8, Jesus asked His Father for an inheritance, a legacy. His inheritance is the nations and the ends of the earth. We become part of this legacy when we give Jesus the place he deserves in our life—Lord and Savior. This is not merely about saying words, it is about stepping into our holy calling, united and equipped in the church.

This happens every day as the power of the gospel through the working of the Holy Spirit transforms people in their life, marriage, workplace, family, community, and neighborhood. This yields the fulfillment of our God’s desire for a people of every nation, adoring Him for eternity as one people (Revelation 7:9-12).

As a local church family, Jesus called us to display His desire and this daily life among our City. In particular, He called us to focus on and display this love amongst the First Ward neighborhoods of Columbia – 14 central City neighborhoods where we live, learn, work, and play.
Let’s settle in over January – March as we re-envision our hearts, our families, and our very calendars to the legacy He and we long for.

Psalm 2:7–8

  I will tell of the decree:
  The LORD said to me, “You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you.
  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
    and the ends of the earth your possession.

Revelation 7:9–12

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

Acts 2:42–47

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
